Department rules

A. Matter related to Admissions

  • Admissions screening shall be conducted by dividing it into general and special admissions. The selection ratio for general and special admissions shall be determined by the faculty meeting of departments.
  • Other matters are subject to the school admission regulations and regulations.

B. matters concerning the completion of credits

  • In order to obtain credits for master's and doctoral courses, it should be prioritized to complete major courses such as Korean Linguistics, Korean Classic Literatures, Korean Modern Literatures, Creative Writing, and Reading.
  • The minimum number of academic credits required is 26 credits for a master's degree (including 2 credits for thesis research), 40 credits for a doctoral degree program (including 4 credits for thesis research), and 66 credits for an integrated program (including 6 credits for thesis research).
  • Thesis research requires the completion of 2 credits for the master's degree program (2 credits in the final semester), 4 credits for the doctoral degree program (2 credits each in the final two semesters), and 6 credits for the integrated program (2 credits each in the final three semesters).
  • Students who need to take an undergraduate supplementary course must choose a subject certified as a major.
  • Other matters are subject to major graduate school regulations and regulations.

C. Foreign language tests-related matters

  • A person who is subject to a foreign language test shall be a person who has registered for at least one semester of a master's degree program, a doctoral degree program, and an integrated course.
  • Foreign language tests are conducted only for English subjects in both master's and doctoral courses.
  • Other matters are subject to the main graduate school regulations and regulations.

D. Matters related to the comprehensive exam

  • Comprehensive exam qualification must be a person with the following credits for each course (Master's degree: 18 credits, Ph.D: 27 credits, Integrated Course: 45 credits).
  • For the comprehensive exam, judges(more than two) submit two subjects exam questions for the master's course. For the Ph.D and integrated courses, judges(more than three) submit three subjects exam questions.
  • In principle, the exam questions are given by the professor who taught the exam subjects, but if the professor who taught the subject is not currently employed, the professor who taught similar subjects among the incumbent professors can.
  • The acceptance criteria shall be 100 points, and 70 points or more shall be passed.
  • Other matters are subject to the main graduate school regulations and regulations.

E. Matters related to the advisor

  • In principle, the advisor is selected according to the field of major and the will of the student.
  • In consideration of the case of a student guidance problem due to an overseas long- term business trip or retirement, etc. of the advisor, You must submit an application for a change of advisor one year in advance if the reason for the forecast is clear and six months in advance if it is inevitable.

F. Presentation of Degree Thesis or Thesis Substitute Achievements

  • Students who wish to submit their thesis and thesis replacement results shall present the plan one semester before the preliminary examination, and conduct a preliminary examination after revising and supplementing the pointed out matters.
  • Students who wish to make a preliminary presentation in the department must pass the foreign language test and the comprehensive examination to apply.
  • In principle, presentations of master's theses or plans for Thesis Substitute Achievements should be conducted publicly.

G. Matters related to the submission and review of degree Thesis or Thesis Substitute Achievements

  • Qualification for Submission of Master's Thesis or Thesis Substitute Achievement.
    • Students who meets the following requirements may request a master's degree thesis and a thesis replacement performance.
      • A person who has completed the 24 credits required for graduation
      • Those who have obtained supplementary credits (limited to those)
      • A person who has completed regular registration of at least four semesters. (Bachelor-Master's Program is 3th semester)
      • Those who have announced their thesis or thesis-substitute achievement plan and have received their advisor's recommendation after receiving guidance from their advisor for at least one semester.
      • Those who pass the foreign language examination and comprehensive examination.
  • Qualification to submit a doctoral dissertation
    • person who meets the following requirements may request a doctoral dissertation.
      • A person who has completed the 36 credits required for graduation
      • Those who have completed supplementary credits (limited to those)
      • Those who have completed regular registration for the 4th semester (integrated course is 8th semester) or higher
      • Those who have acquired 2 credits or more in thesis research (integrated courses is 4credits)
      • A person who has received the recommendation after presenting the thesis plan and receiving the guidance of the advisor for at least two semesters
      • Those who pass the foreign language test and comprehensive examination
    • Students wishing to submit a doctoral dissertation must have at least one thesis published in a journal listed (or candidate for listing) by the National Research Foundation of Korea. (Performance 100% or higher)
    • When the doctoral candidate meets the above requirements, the advisor reviews the thesis draft and, after the department faculty meeting reviews the candidate's resume and research achievements, decides whether to proceed with the preliminary examination.
    • Students selected for preliminary review must prepare and submit their preliminary review presentation materials to all professors by five days prior to the presentation date.
    • If it is deemed that the thesis submitter is not qualified to obtain a degree due to special reasons, it may be held on hold through a meeting of professors in the department.
    • Following the preliminary thesis review, the department faculty meeting will make the final decision on whether to submit the thesis for the degree examination.
    • When a situation arises where it is difficult to decide approval or disapproval at a department faculty meeting, the thesis may be submitted only if a majority of attending professors approve based on an evaluation report that comprehensively assesses ①the topic, ②the structure, ③the content, ④the contribution, and ⑤the presentation attitude.
  • thesis judge
    • In principle, the selection of a thesis judge is decided by an advisor in consideration of the thesis subject.
    • Once a judge is formed, the list must be reported to the graduate school through the department concerned.
