The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is committed to exploring healthy diets, balanced nutrition, the functions of nutrients, food quality and safety, and effective meal management. Our goal is to promote health, prevent and manage disease, and translate academic research into practice for a better quality of life. Department Regulations

A. Admission

  • In accordance with the Graduate School’s admission regulations, applicants are admitted through both special and general admission tracks. The ratio of admissions for each track is determined by the Departmental Faculty Council.
  • In the case of the master's program, one professor can instruct up to 3 students, and in principle, students who are more than that are assigned to the desired major in other fields of their first and second choices.
  • Foreign applicants for the master's and doctoral programs must be fluent in Korean or English.
  • In the case of applicants from similar departments or departments other than the same department or department, the department faculty meeting will decide whether to accept them, but they must complete supplementary courses in the Department of Food and Nutrition. For other matters, the admission regulations of this graduate school will be followed.

B. Credit Requirements

  • Students must complete at least 26 credits, including 2 thesis research credits, for the Master’s Program, and at least 40 credits, including 4 thesis research credits, for the Doctoral Program.
  • Prerequisite Courses For students entering from other majors, prerequisite courses are assigned by the Departmental Faculty Council. If equivalent courses have already been completed, the Council may recognize them as substitutes.

C. Foreign Language Examination

Master’s and Doctoral students are required to take one English language examination. However, applicants who hold valid proof of English proficiency from an officially recognized institution may be exempted. Only results issued within the last two years are accepted. These regulations are applied in accordance with the Graduate School’s bylaws.

D. Comprehensive Examination

  • Master’s Program: Students must pass two designated major courses.
  • Ph.DProgram Students must pass three designated major courses.
    (Subjects are chosen from courses completed during the program and are designated by the Department Chair.)

E. Thesis Submission and Examination

  • Master’s Thesis Eligibility
    • Completion of at least 24 course credits required for graduation, with a minimum of four semesters of enrollment.
    • Completion of at least 2 thesis research credits, submission of a research proposal, and at least one departmental presentation under the supervision of an advisor, with formal recommendation from the advisor.
    • Successful completion of the English examination and the comprehensive examination (2 major subjects).
    • Payment of a one-time research registration fee in the semester when the thesis is submitted.
    • Thesis submission must occur within three years of program completion.
  • Doctoral Dissertation Eligibility
    • Completion of at least 36 course credits required for graduation, with a minimum of four semesters of enrollment.
    • Completion of at least 4 thesis research credits, submission of a research proposal, and at least one departmental presentation under the supervision of an advisor, with formal recommendation from the advisor.
    • Successful completion of the English examination and the comprehensive examination (3 major subjects).
    • Thesis submission must occur within five years of program completion. (In exceptional cases, an extension of up to two years maybe granted with approval from the Dean of the Graduate School.)
    • Research publication requirement: Doctoral candidates must publish or receive acceptance for at least one paper in a nationwide or international academic journal under the supervision of their advisor after admission. Recognition of publications follows the standards of the University Information Disclosure system.

    • Publication criteria:
      • Eligible publications include the following:
        • Domestic scholarly journals KCI (Korean Citation Index) registered journals and candidate journals.
        • International scholarly journals SCI (SCI/SCIE/SSCI), A&HCI.
        • International general academic journals SCOPUS
      • For domestic journals: one paper is recognized as a full unit. For co-authored papers, recognition is calculated as follows:
        • First author or corresponding author: 2/(n+2). Other co-authors: 1/(n+2).
        • n = total number of authors. Results are rounded to the nearest thousandth.
      • For international journals: recognition is multiplied by 2 for SCI/SCIE/SSCI/A&HCI papers and by 1.5 for SCOPUS papers.
