Educational Objectives
The Department of Food Biotechnology at the graduate level aims to cultivate professionals with comprehensive and specialized knowledge in various areas of the food industry, including food processing, food microbiology, functional foods, and food biotechnology, while also interpreting the phenomena of diverse biological resources. The program is dedicated to the research and development of advanced technologies related to the food biotechnology industry.

Department Regulations
A. Admission
- Admissions are conducted through special admission and general admission, with the selection ratio determined annually by the departmental faculty meeting.
- Special admission gives priority and preference to applicants who hold a bachelor's degree for the master's program, or a master's degree for the doctoral program, and who have work experience in biotechnology-related industries.
B. Credit Requirements
- For the master's program, students must earn at least 26 credits (including 2 credits for thesis research), including major and common required courses.
For the doctoral program, students must earn at least 40 credits (including 4 credits for thesis research), including major and common required courses. - Scope of Recognized Similar Departments Departments or faculties offering 10 or more major courses related to the field of study are recognized as similar departments. For the doctoral program, graduates from a master's program with at least 8 related major courses in a graduate school are considered to have equivalent qualifications. If the above criteria are not met, equivalency is determined through a departmental faculty meeting.
C. Foreign Language Examination
The foreign language examination for both master's and doctoral degrees is conducted in English. The second foreign language exam for doctoral students is generally exempted.
D. Comprehensive Examination
Master's: 2 major subjects
Doctoral: 3 major subjects
E. Submission and Evaluation of Thesis
Eligibility Requirements for Thesis Submission: Candidates who meet the following criteria are eligible to submit their thesis:
- Master's Program
- General
- Follow the graduate school's thesis regulations
- Completed at least 24 credits required for completion with an average grade of 80 or above
- Completed all designated supplementary courses
- Registered for at least 4 regular semesters
- Submitted a thesis research proposal and received guidance from the advisor for at least one semester
- Passed the foreign language exam (English) and comprehensive exam (2 major subjects)
- Paid the research registration fee once at the beginning of the semester in which the degree is requested
- Presented the thesis plan to the department at least one semester before the preliminary and final examinations
- Department Standards The thesis must be presented at a departmental seminar and approved by the departmental faculty meeting to be eligible for degree application.

- Completed all designated supplementary courses (if supplementary credits exceed 12, at least 9 credits must be completed)

- Completed at least 2 credits of thesis research (4 credits for integrated program)
- Received guidance from the advisor for at least two semesters and passed a departmental public presentation with advisor recommendation
- Passed the foreign language exams (English and second foreign language if required by the department)
- Passed the comprehensive exam (3 major subjects)
- Paid the research registration fee once at the beginning of the semester in which the degree is requested
- Presented the thesis plan to the department at least one semester before the preliminary and final examinations
- Conducted designated research performance under advisor supervision after admission
For integrated program type 2, if the foreign language and comprehensive exams are passed during the master's program, the foreign language exam is exempted, and passing one additional major subject in the comprehensive exam is required for final qualification.
