Educational Objectives
The goal is to nurture talented individuals who can actively respond to new changes in the international economic order, such as globalization and informatization, and contribute to the smooth transition to an advanced economy. The main curriculum covers economic theory—including economic policy research, applied micro- and macroeconomics, industrial organization, and labor economics—as well as applied fields such as regional industrial policy, econometrics, and innovation economics.

Department Regulations
A. Admission
- Recognition of a similar department The Master’s program recognizes degrees in Business Administration, Trade, Applied Economics, Finance, and other related business fields.
The Doctoral program recognizes degrees in Business Administration, Trade, Accounting, Applied Economics, Finance, and other related business fields.
Students who have completed a Master’s program in these fields, or in related areas, are considered to have equivalent qualifications to graduates of the Department of Economics. - Special Admission In the case of a master's degree, special admission priority is granted only to those who have worked in financial institutions (industries) for more than two years as a bachelor's degree and those who have worked in financial institutions (industries) for more than five years as a master's degree.
- General Admission Major Examination For general screening, document screening and oral exams are conducted, and knowledge of the major, academic potential, and aptitude for the major are evaluated, and the evaluation criteria and scores for each area are determined by the faculty meeting.
B. Matters concerning credit completion
- In the case of the master's program, a total of 26 credits (including 2 credits for thesis research) are included, and in the case of the doctoral program, a total of 40 credits (including 4 credits for thesis research) are included.
- Recognition of course and designation of supplementary course Supplementary courses for master-doctoral students in other majors (excluding similar majors) will be determined by the department faculty meeting. However, if there is a similar study among the subjects you have completed at your university or graduate school, you may be exempted according to the decision of the department faculty meeting.
C. Foreign Language Examination
The foreign language test is conducted with English as a mandatory subject for master's courses, and English as a mandatory subject for doctoral courses and not a second language.
D. Matters concerning the comprehensive examination
The subjects of the comprehensive examination are decided by the department meeting, and the contents of the decision are disclosed.
E. Doctoral Dissertation Submission
- Paper Submission Requirements A person who meets the following requirements may submit a dissertation.

- Earn all the credits for completing the specified supplementary course
- A person who has completed a regular registration of at least four semesters
- A person who has been guided by a supervisor for at least one semester after submitting a research plan for a dissertation
- A person who has passed the Foreign Language Examination (English) and Comprehensive Examination (two major subjects)
- Payment of research tuition fee only once at the beginning of the semester in which a degree is to be claimed after completion
- At least one semester before the preliminary examination and main examination, the thesis plan is announced by the department concerned

- Obtain at least 36 credits required for completion (60 credits for integrated courses, 80 points for average grades in all subjects)
- Obtain all credits for completing designated supplementary courses (but 9 credits for those with 12 or more supplementary credits)
- A person who has completed a regular registration of at least four semesters (the integrated course is eight semesters)
- Obtain at least two credits of thesis research and at least four credits of thesis research for integrated courses
- A person who has been recommended by the supervisor after at least one public presentation by department under the guidance of the supervisor for at least two semesters
- A person who has passed the foreign language examination (English, second language: applicable departments only)

- Matters concerning the examination of the thesis
- A research plan must be published.
- When presenting a research plan, sufficient references must be presented, and it shall be prepared in about 10 sheets of A4 paper.
- When presenting a research plan, the presenter who is pointed out to have many problems should be allowed to present it one more time.
- Matters concerning the selection of supervisors
- The selection of supervisors shall be made by the relevant students after receiving a commitment through prior interviews with their major professors, and the responsible professor of graduate school decides on the supervisor.
- Where it is impossible for a supervisor to guide a thesis due to a long-term business trip, etc. within one year, he/she shall utilize a system of delegation of supervisors: Provided, That where a supervisor is unable to participate in the thesis review, he/she shall change his/her supervisor at the beginning of the relevant semester (March and September).
