About us The primary objective of the Department of Mathematics at the Graduate School is to cultivate exceptional individuals with a solid foundation in mathematics, encompassing in-depth knowledge, concepts, and mathematical systems across various disciplines. A. Matters related to admission

B. Academic credits and requirements

  • To earn credits, students must complete at least 26 credits for a master's degree (including 2 credits for thesis research) and at least 40 credits for a doctoral degree (including 4 credits for thesis research), which must include major and common required courses.
  • Elective course designation Supplementary courses for master's and doctoral students from other majors are decided by the department's faculty meeting, and if they have completed similar courses, they may be accepted based on the meeting's decision.

C. Foreign language test-related matters

The foreign language test subjects for this department are generally English for master's students and English only for doctoral students. The specific implementation of these tests is governed by the university's regulations on graduate language and comprehensive exams.

D. Matters related to the comprehensive exam

E. Matters related to the eligibility for submitting a Ph.D. thesis

Eligibility for Thesis Submission: Individuals who meet the following criteria are eligible to submit a thesis.

  • Master's degree
    • Common Graduate School Thesis Submission Guidelines
      • To be eligible for graduation, students must earn a minimum of 24 credits (an average of 80% or higher in all courses)
      • complete all required credits for the designated supplementary courses
      • Students who have been enrolled in regular classes for four semesters or more
      • A student who has received guidance from a supervisor for at least one semester after submitting a thesis research plan
      • Those who have passed the foreign language test (English) and the comprehensive exam (in two major subjects)
      • Research tuition is paid only once at the start of the semester in which the degree is requested after completion
      • At least a semester before the preliminary and final exams, the department will present a thesis plan
    • Departmental standards
      • The advisor responsible for the thesis will be assigned to the student.
      • Matters related to the preliminary review of the dissertation The department will host a one-time thesis presentation event, open to both faculty and students. If a thesis is presented at a conference, it may be exempt from the department's open presentation.
      • Matters related to the main examination of the dissertation The examination is conducted in accordance with the school rules, under the supervision of the head referee.
  • Ph.D
    • Common Graduate School Thesis Submission Guidelines
      • To be eligible for graduation, students must earn at least 36 credits (60 credits for the integrated course, with an average grade of 80% or higher in all subjects)
      • Students must complete all required supplementary courses and earn the corresponding credits (with the exception that those with more than 12 credits in supplementary courses must earn 9 credits)
      • Students who have completed at least four semesters (or eight semesters for integrated programs) of regular registration
      • A minimum of 2 credits in thesis research is required, and a minimum of 4 credits in the integrated course
      • A student who has received guidance from a supervisor for at least two semesters and has made at least one public presentation in their department, and has been recommended by their supervisor
      • Those who have passed the foreign language test (English or a second language, depending on the department)
      • Students who have passed the comprehensive exam for their major, which includes three core subjects
      • A student must pay the research tuition fee only once at the beginning of the semester in which they wish to claim their degree after completing their studies
      • At least one semester prior to the preliminary and final exams, the department must present a thesis plan
