Department Regulations

A. Admission Information

  • Special Admission : Decisions are made at the departmental faculty meeting within the enrollment quota.
  • General Admission
    • Master’s Program: Applicants are required to take qualifying examinations in Electronics and Classical Mechanics.
    • Doctoral Program: Applicants are required to take qualifying examinations in one of the following: Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics, or the applicant’s specialized major subject.

B. Course Requirements

  • Recognized Related Fields : Mathematics, Chemistry, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Recognition of Courses and Supplementary Courses Supplementary courses for Master’s and Doctoral students from other majors are determined by the departmental faculty meeting. However, if equivalent courses have already been completed at the applicant’s previous institution or graduate school, exemptions may be granted based on the faculty’s decision.

C. Foreign Language Examination

Doctoral students are not required to take a second foreign language examination.

D. Comprehensive Examination

  • Comprehensive examinations for Master’s and Doctoral students are conducted by the Graduate School.
  • Candidates must first pass the foreign language examination.
  • The Master’s program requires 2 major subjects; the Doctoral program requires 3 major subjects.
  • Students who score 70 out of 100 or higher will be recognized as having satisfied the thesis submission requirement.

E. Requirements for Thesis Submission

  • Master’s Program
    • General Requirements
      • Completion of at least 24 credits of graduate coursework with a GPA equivalent to B (80/100) or higher.
      • Completion of all required supplementary courses.
      • Enrollment for at least four semesters.
      • Submission of a thesis research proposal and guidance under an advisor for at least one semester.
      • Passing both the foreign language exam (English) and the comprehensive exam (2 major subjects).
      • Payment of research fees each semester as designated.
      • Presentation of the thesis proposal at least one semester prior to submission.
  • Ph.D. Program
    • General Requirements Regarding the submission of a doctoral dissertation:
      • Must complete at least 36 credits of coursework (a minimum of 60 credits including the master’s program for the integrated course) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (B0 or above).
      • Must complete designated mandatory research guidance credits (Ph.D.: 12 credits or more / Integrated course: 9 credits or more).
      • Must complete at least 4 semesters (8 semesters for integrated courses) of regular registration.
      • Must acquire at least 2 research guidance credits (4 or more for integrated courses) and obtain the recommendation of the academic advisor regarding the dissertation proposal.
      • Must pass the foreign language examination (English and a second foreign language; details determined by each department).
      • Must pass the comprehensive examination (major qualification exam).
      • Must apply for dissertation submission within the semester after completing the coursework, pay the dissertation examination fee, and complete the examination process.
      • Must present at least once at an academic conference recognized by the affiliated department before the dissertation examination application.
      • Must receive approval from the academic advisor regarding the appropriateness of the dissertation subject.
    • Dissertation Submission Requirements To be eligible for dissertation submission, Ph.D. candidates must publish two or more papers in accredited academic journals (domestic or international journals recognized by the affiliated department, including journals listed in the Korean Citation Index or SCOPUS, etc.).
