Introduction

The Department of History is an academic field that deepens our understanding of the present by studying how human life has been recorded and transmitted to later generations, and by exploring how life in history has been both diverse across periods and regions and universal in certain respects. Through the study of history, students acquire professional competence in collecting and managing historical records, while also cultivating the ability to propose historically informed solutions to contemporary issues.

Oriental History of Ancient History

Department Regulations

  • Provisions on Admission
    • Recognition of Equivalent Departments Applicants to the Master’s program who have completed ten or more courses related to history in their previous department or undergraduate major, or applicants to the Doctoral program who have completed eight or more courses related to history during their Master’s studies, shall be recognized as having qualifications equivalent to those of students who have earned a Master’s degree from the Department of History.
    • Special admission Priority in the special admission process shall be given, in the case of the Master’s program, to applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree who have been engaged in history education, and, in the case of the Doctoral program, to applicants holding a Master’s degree who have been engaged in history education or historical research.
    • Major Examination Subjects for the Regular Admission As a general rule, the subjects and guidelines for the entrance examination shall be determined and made publicly available at the beginning of the second semester each year.
  • Provisions on Credit Requirements
    • Recognition of Courses and Designation of Supplementary Courses Supplementary courses for Master’s and Doctoral students from other majors (excluding related or equivalent majors) shall be determined by the Department Faculty Committee. If a student has completed courses in their previous university or graduate program that are considered equivalent, they may be exempted from the supplementary course requirements at the discretion of the Department Faculty Committee.
  • Provisions on Foreign Language Examination For the Master’s program, the foreign language examination shall be conducted in one language (English), and for the Doctoral program, the examination shall also be conducted in English.
  • Provisions on the Thesis
    • Students must complete all required coursework credits and pass the foreign language and comprehensive examinations in order to be eligible to submit their thesis or dissertation for the degree.
    • Applicants intending to submit a doctoral dissertation must have published at least two papers related to their major in domestic or international academic journals since their admission.
  • Others Students in the Master’s program majoring in Records Management must complete the Records Management Field Practicum through the designated regular course Records Management Practice and submit a report on the results. However, those who have prior experience in records management or are currently engaged in such work may be exempted from the field practicum.
