Departmental Regulations

A. Admission

  • In accordance with the university’s graduate admission regulations, entrance examinations are conducted separately for the Special Admission Track and the General Admission Track.
  • Recognition of Equivalent Majors: For related or equivalent fields of study to Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture eligibility is determined by the Departmental Faculty Council.
  • Other matters shall follow the general regulations of the Graduate School.

B. Course Enrollment

  • Course Registration: Regulations concerning course registration shall follow Article 2 of the Department’s Internal Rules (Formation of Curriculum).
  • Designation of Supplementary Courses: According to Article 6 of the Department’s Internal Rules (Designation of Supplementary Courses), supplementary courses may be designated based on the student’s undergraduate background.
    Such courses are determined by the Departmental Faculty Council and submitted to the Graduate School.

C. Foreign Language Examination

For both Master’s and Doctoral programs, one foreign language test (English only) is required.

D. Comprehensive Examination

Candidates for the comprehensive examination must take the exam based on courses they have completed. The scope of the examination shall be determined by the Departmental Faculty Council according to the student’s area of specialization.

E. Thesis Submission and Evaluation

  • Eligibility for Doctoral Dissertation Submission: In accordance with regulations on doctoral dissertations, candidates must have published or received confirmation of publication of at least one research paper related to their dissertation topic in a domestic academic journal before submitting the dissertation.However, candidates who have conducted research abroad for six months or more may, with the approval of the Departmental Faculty Council, substitute this requirement with an oral presentation.
  • Submission of Dissertation Proposal: Candidates are required to present their dissertation proposal at least once in an official departmental seminar prior to submission.
  • Submission of Preliminary Thesis for Master’s Degree: Candidates must submit their preliminary thesis to the Departmental Faculty Council prior to their preliminary defense.
  • Submission of Preliminary Dissertation for Doctoral Degree: Doctoral candidates must submit their preliminary dissertation (including an open presentation) to the Departmental Faculty Council prior to the main defense.
  • Eligibility for Final Defense: The eligibility requirements for final defenses of both Master’s and Doctoral theses shall be determined by the Departmental Faculty Council.

F. Miscellaneous

Any other matters, including student guidance and supervision, shall be determined by the Departmental Faculty Council.
