The Department of Law aims to cultivate competent professionals who are able to resolvelegal issues in a reasonable manner while contributing to the development of legal studies.

4. Department Regulations

A. Matters Concerning Admission

  • Recognition of Similar Departments
    • Students applying to the master's program who have completed 9 or more credits in law-related subjects during their undergraduate studies (department or major) will be recognized as having graduated from a similar department.
    • For students applying to the doctoral program, if they have completed 12 or more credits in law-related subjects during their master's program, they will be recognized as having equivalent qualifications to students who graduated from a master's program in law.
  • Special Admission
    • For the master's program, priority for special admission will be given to those with a bachelor's degree who have been engaged in law-related practice or legal education for 2 years or more. For the doctoral program, priority will be given to those with a master's degree who have been engaged in law-related practice or education for 4 years or more.
    • Approximately 50% of the quota will be selected through special admission.

B. Matters Concerning Credit Requirements

  • Master's students must earn a minimum of 26 credits (including 2 credits for thesis research), and doctoral students must earn a minimum of 40 credits (including 4 credits for thesis research). However, master's students from different undergraduate backgrounds must complete a minimum of 35 credits (including 2 credits for thesis research and 9 credits for supplementary subjects), and doctoral students from different backgrounds must complete a minimum of 52 credits (including 4 credits for thesis research and 12 credits for supplementary subjects).
  • By major field, master's students must complete a minimum of 12 credits and doctoral students must complete a minimum of 18 credits in major subjects.
  • Recognition of major subject completion in paragraph (2) shall be determined by the department faculty meeting.
  • Supplementary Subject Requirements and Alternative Subject Recognition Students from other majors (excluding similar departments) must complete supplementary subjects designated by the department faculty meeting and take their major subjects. However, if there are alternative subjects among those completed at their undergraduate institution or graduate school, all or part may be exempted based on the decision of the department faculty meeting.

C. Matters Concerning Foreign Language Examinations

Those who wish to take the foreign language examination must submit the prescribed application form to the graduate school within the deadline after receiving approval from the department head professor.
The foreign language examination is conducted only in English for both master's and doctoral programs.

D. Matters Concerning Comprehensive Examinations

Those who wish to take the comprehensive examination must submit the prescribed application form to the graduate school within the deadline after receiving approval from the department head professor.

  • Master's Programcomprehensive examination candidates must take 2 subjects in their major field, including specialized major subjects.
  • Doctoral ProgramDoctoral program comprehensive examination candidates must take 3 subjects in their major field, including specialized major subjects.

E. Matters Concerning Thesis Submission and Review

  • Thesis Submission Requirements : Those who meet the following requirements may submit their degree thesis.
    • Master's Program**
      • Common Requirements: Internal regulations concerning graduate school degree thesis applications
        • Completion of at least 24 credits required for graduation (average grade of 80 points or higher across all subjects)
        • Completion of all designated supplementary subject credits
        • Completion of regular enrollment for 4 or more semesters
        • Receipt of guidance from thesis advisor for at least 1 semester after submitting thesis research proposal
        • Passing foreign language examination (English) and comprehensive examination (2 major subjects)
        • Payment of research registration fee once at the beginning of the semester when applying for degree after completion
        • Presentation of thesis plan in the affiliated department at least one semester before conducting preliminary and final examination
    • Doctoral Program**
      • Common RequirementsInternal regulations concerning graduate school degree thesis applications
        • Completion of at least 36 credits required for graduation (average grade of 80 points or higher across all subjects)
        • Completion of all designated supplementary subject credits
        • Completion of regular enrollment for 4 or more semesters
        • Completion of at least 2 credits in thesis research
        • Receipt of advisor recommendation after receiving guidance for 2 or more semesters and conducting at least one public presentation by department
        • Passing foreign language examination (English) and comprehensive examination (3 major subjects)
        • Payment of research registration fee once at the beginning of the semester when applying for degree after completion
        • Presentation of thesis plan in the affiliated department at least one semester before conducting preliminary and final examinations
        • Possession of prescribed research achievements as determined by the department under advisor guidance since admission
      • Department Standards
        • Thesis submitters must publish at least one major-related paper in a Korea Research Foundation listed (candidate) journal
        • Credit evaluation conversion rates according to number of paper authors are calculated as follows:
          • 1 author: 100%
          • 2 authors: 50% (first author, corresponding author, co-author)
          • 3 authors: 40% (first author, corresponding author, co-author)

F. Matters Concerning Major and Specialized Major Selection

Major and specialized major selection is made at the end of the first semester after admission.

G. Other matters shall be determined by departmental faculty meetings.
