Comprehensive Examination and Foreign Language Examination

Comprehensive Examination

1. Qualification

Students who have earned at least the required credits for each program (18 credits for Master's degree program, 27 credits for Doctoral degree program and 45 credits for integrated Ph.D. program)

2. Time of Examination

Given twice a year (Please contact your department since the exact schedule of the comprehensive exam differs by semester).

3. Examination Subject

Master’s program: 2 subjects (among the courses completed in the program) Doctoral program: 3 subjects (among the courses completed in the program)

4. Marks and Pass/Fail Criteria

Comprehensive exam is carried out on a 100-points basis for each subject for all degree programs and one should earn at least 70 points per subject to pass.

5. Examination Process

Students should submit comprehensive exam applications to the GSD Administrative Support Office within the designated period (See Academic Calendar for Graduate School of Dong-A University). Examinations will be held at places designated by Department Offices.

Foreign Language Examination

1. Qualification

Those who have registered for at least one semester for a degree program

2. Time of Examination

Twice a year (May/November)

3. Examination Subject

  • Master’s program: English
  • Doctoral program: English

4. Marks and Pass/Fail Criteria

The foreign language exam is carried out on a 100-points basis for each subject for all degree programs and one should earn at least 60 points per subject to pass.

5. Examination

  • Those who have met the following criteria may be exempted from the foreign language exam. Test results within two years of the exam date only will be accepted.

  • Evidential documents such as TOEIC or TOEFL report card must be submitted to the GSD Administrative Support Office within the exam application period for exemption from the foreign language exam.
  • Those who have completed English language courses provided by the GSD and proven a certain level of English proficiency are exempted from the foreign language exam.
    • Course details: English education course provided during breaks (In-person attendance course)
    • A total of 45 hours
    • Exemption criteria: Attendance of 2/3 or more, and 70 points or more in the course test

6. Examination Process

Students should submit a foreign language exam application to the GSD Administrative Support Office within the designated period (See Academic Calendar for Graduate School of Dong-A University).
Examinations will be held at place designated by GSD.
