Educational Objectives

The graduate school’s construction system engineering department aims to cultivate talented people with excellent skills who can directly practice Hong In-man, the founding ideology of our university, in modern society.
In particular, it aims to cultivate engineers with sound citizenship and responsibility by teaching professional knowledge necessary to manage national resources and build national infrastructure.
In other words, it aims to cultivate civil engineers who are free to discuss and focus on the pursuit of truth based on freedom, truth, and justice, which are the teachings of this university, but have a sense of responsibility based on social justice.

Bylaws of the department

A. Matters related to admission

  • In principle, it is divided into special and general admissions according to the bylaws on admission to this graduate school. However, the selection ratio for special and general admissions is determined by the faculty meeting of the department.
  • Foreign applicants for master’s and doctoral programs must be free to speak Korean or English.
  • For those who are from the same department and similar departments other than the same department and similar departments, the faculty meeting of the department decides whether to recognize it or not, but the supplementary course of the department of civil engineering is to be completed. For other matters, this graduate school admission bylaws are followed.

B. Matters concerning the completion of credits.

  • For credit acquisition, at least 26 credits for master’s program(including 2 credits for thesis research) and at least 40 credits for doctoral program(including 4 credits for thesis research).
  • Matters concerning complementary courses: It is decided by the supervisor within the scope of the graduate school regulations and regulations. However, subjects already completed at your university and similar subjects may be exempted after approval from the supervisor and the head of the department.

C. Matters concerning foreign language test and comprehensive examination

  • The foreign language test is conducted only with one master’s and doctorate’s public interest English course.
  • Other matters not specified in this bylaws shall be governed by the bylaws on the foreign language examination of graduate schools.

D. Matters concerning the comprehensive examination

  • Subjects deemed necessary by the supervisor shall be selected from among the subjects taken by the parties to the comprehensive examination, and the instructor in charge shall present and grade them. (2 master’s and 3 doctor’s subjects)

E. Matters concerning submission and examination of thesis

  • Degree Claiming Paper Submission Requirements: A person who meets the following requirements may submit a thesis
    • The master’s course
      • A person who has completed regular registration for at least four semesters must acquire at least 24 credits(average score of 80 points for all subjects) necessary for completing the master’s program. However, a person who majored in another department or similar majors must acquire all the credits for completing the designated supplementary courses.
      • After submitting a research plan for the thesis, you must receive guidance from your supervisor for at least one semester.
      • You must pass the Foreign language Test(English) and the Comprehensive Test(two subjects).
      • After completion, the research tuition fee shall be paid only once at the beginning of the semester in which the degree is to be claimed.
      • In principle, the department should present the thesis plan at least one semester before the preliminary examination and main examination.
    • Ph.D. program
      • A person who has completed regular registration for at least four semesters(the integrated course is eight semesters), and must obtain at least 36 credits(more than 60 credits for the integrated course, more than 80 points on average for all subjects) necessary for the completion of the doctoral program. Provided, That other departments or similar majors shall acquire all the credits for completing the designated supplementary courses, and those whose supplementary credits are at least 12 credits shall acquire at least nine credits.
      • You must be guided by your supervisor for at least two semesters and recommended by your supervisor after making public announcements for each department at least once.
      • You must pass the Foreign Language Test(English) and the Comprehensive Test(three subjects).
      • After completion, the research tuition fee shall be paid only once at the beginning of the semester in which the degree is to be claimed.
      • In principle, the department should present the thesis plan at least one semester before the preliminary examination and main examination.
      • Before the preliminary announcement, more than 50% of the results must be presented in domestic and international specialized academic journals at least at the Korea Research Foundation’s registered paper(including registered candidates).
  • Degree Claiming Paper Review Procedure and Method: Degree Paper Review is conducted as follows.
    • Matters concerning preliminary examination of thesis requesting master’s and doctoral degrees.The supervisor and the judge decide whether to refer the main examination according to the results of the preliminary examination, but refer to the opinions of the department professors.
    • Matters related to the main examination of the thesis requesting a master’s degreeIn principle, the judges of the main examination shall consist of three major professors for the master’s course and five doctoral courses(one or two of them are full-time professors at other universities other than our teachers or authority in related fields). At this time, the supervisor must be a judge.
    • Other matters not specified in this bylaws shall be decided by the faculty meeting of departments in accordance with the graduate school regulations and related bylaws.
  • The conversion rate for recognizing research results is as follows in accordance with the university information disclosure standards.
    • If the number of thesis authors is only one, the results of the thesis publication shall be 100%.
    • If there are two or more authors of the paper, depending on the author’s role, it is 2/(n+2) for the main author or the corresponding author, and 1/(n+2) for the co-author, as shown in the following example.
      • N is the total number of authors indicated in the paper, and if the total number of authors is 15 or more, it is treated as n=15.
      • One thesis author: 100%
      • Two thesis authors: 50%(main-author, corresponding author), 25%(co-author)
      • Three thesis authors: 40%(main-author, corresponding author), 20%(co-author)
    • Among the research results, papers published at the SCI level (including SCIE) or higher are 2.0 times, and the SCOPUS level is 1.5 times.
  • Time of enforcementThis bylaws apply to students who entered graduate schools in the late 2014.

F. Other matters necessary for the operation of the department

Allocation of experimental practice expenses in graduate school: 50% of the experimental practice expenses are used for common expenses and equipment purchase expenses. The remaining 50% is distributed as a ratio of the number of graduate students in each major.
